Gamers hoping to spend the night in front of their PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4 may be out of luck unless they enjoy the single player experience (have you tried Astro Bot?). Sony’s gaming network had a big problem on Monday night.
PSN’s official Status of Service page confirms issues affecting everything, “Other, PS Vita, PS3, PS4, PS5, web.” If it’s a PlayStation — it doesn’t work. The latest update marked 9:21PM ET says of the play, “You may have difficulty launching games, apps, or network features. We are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.”
Finally, trying to launch the game brings up “PS5 error code WS-116522-7,” and the related webpage from Sony tells me “System software update failed.”

Players cannot log in, play multiplayer games, or play single player games that require connecting and logging in to the internet first (offline games seem to work fine).
There’s no word on what’s causing the problem, and there’s no time limit on when it can be fixed. This doesn’t seem like it should be related to any bug that was messing up the home screen artwork for PS5 games – a bug that was fixed a few hours ago – but if we hear any more details, we’ll let you know.
