At the moment, Krypto’s exact role in Superman is still unclear, but Gunn included a short teaser in his post on X showing Superman and Krypto sitting side by side, enjoying the view of Earth in the distance, resting on what appears to be the moon. After making his comic debut in Adventure Comics #210 in March 1955, Krypto has seen many iterations over the years. Recently, Krypto is often seen as Superman’s pet dog, which is often depicted as a white dog of various breeds.
In addition to his announcement, Gunn made a direct reference to Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, an event sponsored by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). This event, held every October, is an effort to encourage the adoption of dogs from shelters. According to the ASPCA, more than three million dogs enter shelters every year.
