Opetaia Vs Nyika: “You’re Trying To Stop What I’m Trying To Do!”

IBF cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia says Davis Nyika is trying to finish what he’s trying to achieve in his career, and he won’t let him do that on Wednesday night at the Gold Coast Convention Centre, Broadbeach, Australia.

A tired looking Opetaia (26-0, 20 KOs) seemed surprised by the toughness Nyika (10-0, 9 KOs) showed during the weigh-in. He thinks that Nyika, 29, organizes things at home in advance, and that is not her style.

Challenger is trying to find a way to win his fight because he knows that he is facing many fans who believe that he is the King of the Cruiserweight belt. Nyika doesn’t have the experience or fame for her work like Opetaia, but that doesn’t mean she can’t succeed.

“Trying To Finish Me”

He catches Jai at the right time, as he has started to show difficulties in gaining weight and also had a tough fight with former IBF cruiserweight champion Mairis Briedis last year in May. Nyika has the size, strength, and hunger to win this fight if he can defeat Opetaia.

“I didn’t expect that either. That was a little bit of him. I know that this child is going home and planning things in his head what he has been saying. Who knows? I don’t give af***,” said Jai Opetaia speaking to Boxing King Media, talking about his fight with David Nyika on the scales.

“I have never spoken badly to anyone. I never talked about anyone. I said I live here. This is what I do. I’m talking about myself. I have never bad mouthed anyone. He’s still a good guy, but he’s a lot more intense there. We have a lot of pressure on ourselves.

“This is his chance, and he’s trying to finish what I’m trying to do. So, everything is on the line. I don’t know man. “That’s a strange thing to hear,” said Opetaia when told that some people said that ‘his aura gives them goosebumps.’

Aura of Intimidation

Nyika wanted to show that she is not intimidated by Opetaia like the others, that’s why she entered her face, informing her that she is coming to win this fight. He predicts a knockout win, and it will be interesting to see if he can do that against Jai. If he does that it will interfere with the plans of Opetaia and his promoter Eddie Hearn in the fights against Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez and Oleksandr Usyk,

“I’m just focusing on myself, I’m trying to win these battles and move forward in life. I hope they’re good buds and can make you get off your a** and do something,” said Opetaia.

“I have met Mike Tyson. I respect Mike Tyson too much to put me through that, and it gives me goosebumps. So, what does that say? So, I don’t know what to say,” said Opetaia.
