Rising featherweight Omar Trinidad will take the next step in his career against Hector Sosa on Saturday.
Trinidad feels ready to face a strong Argentinean fighter in front of their fans at the Commerce Casino, Commerce, Los Angeles.
“I know he’s a seasoned player, I know he’s tough,” Trinidad (16-0-1, 13 strikeouts) told The Ring. “I know he’s coming in ready for a 12-round fight, I know he’s got a few 12- and 10-rounders under his belt. I know he has won two in a row and is coming in with confidence. I know it will be a great night for the fans. I’ve been working hard in the gym to stop him in his tracks to give him a short night or a long night.”
The 28-year-old power forward, who has prepared as usual under the watchful eye of Jesus “Don Chuy” Lopez Sr. two months, he sees the danger that Sosa may bring but he feels, in the end, it will be his. to postpone.
“He’s a pressure fighter, he comes in and likes to sit down with his fists, so I’m sure that the most dangerous thing is his condition, intensity and pressure,” he said. “The way I’m going to get him out of them, I’m going to frustrate him, he’s going to fail and I’m going to shoot him with a gun.”
In the last round, Trinidad impressively stopped Viktor Slavinskyi (TKO 10), in a fight that was important to learn the curve.
“It was another tough fight, I just knew that if I took the WBC (Continental Americas) belt I would be a big victim on my back, and I knew that there would be a lot of fights to go up and I knew it. What I signed up for, I faced the challenge head on,” he said. “I know that every fight when I take care of business on the 26th will be another tough fight.
“If we go back to the Slavinsky war, it was a very difficult war. I think it was the second or third southpaw I’ve fought in my career and I feel like I exposed him and won but he made me work for W for sure but I’m glad I got 10 rounds in the bank. and get the result. “
That experience has put him in a good position in this fight and put him in a position to touch the world title.
“My promoter has plans to fight me four or five times next year, I know they have a lot of events,” he said. “I feel like I have two fights left to win the world title and if it’s the next one, it’s in my hands whether he wants to fight, any fight I’ll take, if it’s a world title, I’ll take it happily. That’s why I have a team, I have a manager to guide me.”
He feels that his recent development has helped propel him to a new level and expects to win by any means necessary.
“From last year, until this year, I feel like I’m out of contention for the title and the rankings speak for themselves,” he said. “I know it’s going to be a tough fight – my first 12-rounder. I am not ashamed to walk a long way. I’ve been running, training to give the fans a big fight.
“I know it will be difficult but I will make sure that I come out victorious. When I took him out, he was never taken out, and I did something that his previous opponents couldn’t do. One would be if I took him 12 rounds and dominated him. That will confirm that I am ready for the players.”
Tom Loeffler, President of 360 Promotions, is looking forward to seeing his star back in action as he looks to take another step towards achieving his goal of fighting for a world title.
“Omar Trinidad has shown that he is not only a great talent, but he lives up to the king of LA with all the fans who come to fight for his fights,” said the promoter. “Born and Raised in Boyle Heights, Omar is the definition of a local kid made good, now ranked (WBC) No. 10 in the world.
“Sosa will be his toughest challenge so far and we expect many fireworks in this world-class match. Omar has never been in a boring fight and this fight should be no different as Sosa has proven himself to be world class. The winner of this fight will definitely take a big step towards the world title.”
Sosa turned pro in 2017. He won his first 13 in his home country of Argentina and claimed the South American junior featherweight title. He lost his undefeated record heading to Panama and dropped a decision to Rafael Pedroza (UD 10). After returning to the win column he was beaten by Christian Carto (UD 8).
This saw the 29-year-old move up to featherweight where he has won three fights including a stoppage over former world title contender Jazza Dickens (TKO 10) and, most recently, knocked out Keenan Carbajal in the morning to make it 12 wins. -round the decision unanimously.
