Odisha Chief Minister releases Rs 5,000 to 35 lakh women under Subhadra Yojana

On Wednesday, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced the release of Rs 5,000 each to over 35 lakh women as the first installment under the national flag Subhadra Yojana. The event took place in Chhaupadia, where Majhi, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, distributed a sum of Rs 1,750 crore directly to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.
Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17, the Subhadra Yojana aims to financially empower women. On its first day, the scheme successfully transferred the first installment of Rs 5,000 to nearly 25.11 lakh beneficiaries.
Addressing the audience, Majhi emphasized that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government is fulfilling its promises to the people of Odisha. He noted that the Subhadra Yojana is an important commitment made in the BJP’s election manifesto to empower women.
“Today, more than 35 lakh beneficiaries have been given the first installment payment in the second phase of the fund under the Subhadra Yojana,” Majhi said. So far, about 60 lakh women have benefited from this scheme, and 1.20 crore women have registered under the scheme.
The chief minister also described the Subhadra Yojana as the largest scheme ever implemented in Odisha, covering more than 1 crore women. Each beneficiary is expected to receive a sum of Rs 10,000 annually in two installments—one on Rakhi Purnima and the other on International Women’s Day (March 8)—for a period of five years, totaling Rs 50,000.
Women who cannot receive funds during the first phase due to various reasons are included in the second phase. Those who applied on October 7 received their payments on Wednesday. The program is scheduled to be implemented in the financial years 2024-25 to 2028-29, with a significant expenditure of Rs 55,825 crore provided by the state government.
