It did NOT take long for National University (NU) to regain its lost glory in the UAAP basketball tournament.
The Lady Bulldogs returned to their rightful place to surrender after seven consecutive seasons of dominance by quickly dismantling the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Tigresses, 78-73, in Game 3 of the UAAP Season 87 women’s basketball finals yesterday at Smart. Araneta Coliseum.
It was not a flawless march as the school that had it at the top of its dynasty had only one wound in Game 2, 78-68, after a 15-0 game until the finals but NU still achieved the big goal and the dream title behind. just a year ago.

Graduating ace Camille Clarin added 14 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals, including three free throws in the waning seconds to keep the Lady Bulldogs up by five points heading home.
Angel Surada produced the same result, Karl Ann Pingol contributed 10 points and nine rebounds as Aris Dimaunahan captured his second UAAP title since taking over from dynasty builder Pat Aquino, who guided NU to the crown six straight.
“I’m very happy with the way we ended our year. These players have been there since Day 1 of our training camp. Today is the fruit of our work throughout the year,” said coach Aris Dimaunahan, who dedicated the championship to his eldest son who died in 1998 on the day of his death.
“We have kept our steps carefully. Our daily focus was to get better and better. We had 1 of usSt season loss in Game 2. This is for the NU community. And today was that day.”
The Lady Bulldogs, who have a 15-1 slate this year, suffered a heartbreaking 71-69 loss to last year’s game-winner Nikki Villasin for Santo Tomas to lose their seat in a thrilling Game 3.
It’s a similar situation but a different result for NU this time, bouncing back from a tough Game 2 loss for its first and only loss of the season.
That one scratch only made the Lady Bulldogs more aggressive when it mattered most, taking command of the winner-take-all duel in the second half to lead by 15 points.
NU was up 72-57 with six minutes left following Ms. Clarin before needing to hold on to courage during a fiery comeback attempt by the Tigresses, went ahead 70-75 on Tacky Tacatac’s trey for the win. 13-2 rebellion.
