NSE, BSE have announced changes in contract expiry dates from next year

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) have revised the expiry schedules of several derivative contracts. The new expiry dates will be effective from January 1, 2025, as per the circular issued by the exchange.

Here are the updated date details:
- Monthly FINNIFTY, MIDCPNIFTY, and NIFTYNXT50 contracts will now expire on the last Thursday of the expiration month.
- Monthly and three-month BANKNIFTY contracts will also expire on the last Thursday of the month, instead of the last Wednesday.
Previously, the expiration dates for the FINNIFTY, MIDCPNIFTY, and NIFTYNXT50 contracts were spread throughout the week, with the contracts expiring on Tuesday, Monday, and Friday, respectively.
The circular clarified that there will be no changes in the expiry dates of monthly, weekly, quarterly, and half-yearly NIFTY contracts.
BSE’s Revised Expiry Framework
BSE has also changed the expiry calendar for derivatives, here are the details:
- Weekly Sensex contracts will now expire on Tuesday instead of Friday
- All monthly Sensex, Bankex, and Sensex 50 contracts will shift to expire on the last Tuesday of the month, instead of the last Friday, last Monday, and last Thursday expiration dates, respectively.
- Quarterly and half-yearly Sensex contracts will now expire on the Tuesday of the expiry month, instead of the last Friday.
