Every day, thieves steal cars from desperate people, but they usually don’t steal the rare R32 Nissan Skyline GT-R from Nissan’s safe deposit box. That’s what makes the latest heist so exciting because the car is known and it’s obviously written to a high standard, we wonder what the thieves plan to do with it.

The 1991 R32 in question was picked up at Nissan Australia’s headquarters in Mulgrave. It was part of an in-house collection, one of about 100 new imports Down Under back in the day, according to Drive. That alone makes it historically significant.
But it’s also true that unmolested R32s in mint condition are worth a ton of money these days. We think that was the reason for the steal, although introducing a Nissan may be difficult given its reputation.
Identifying a stolen R32 should be easy. It’s red and emblazoned with “GTR 091” – a trophy we’re sure someone will throw at it. After all, the nature of this particular Godzilla should increase its value significantly, and that’s the point of stealing it.
It was the R32 that once earned the nickname of Godzilla in the early 1990s as it was the gold standard in the automotive industry. Race broadcasters noted how terrifying it was, calling it the famous Japanese cinematic thunder lizard.
Victoria Police are investigating the theft. We think Nissan Australia has surveillance cameras, so hopefully there are more clues in the photos and what was left at the scene. After all, we believe that the Skyline GT-R should have its rightful owner, who has been sharing the beautiful machine with enthusiasts and other members of the community.
Also, we just wonder who has the guts to think and do a heist like this? Some people have no shame.
