Nightdive’s ‘The Thing’ tribute is available now

Nightdive Studios, the developer behind the memorabilia of Star Wars: The Dark Forces again System Shock 2have surprisingly launched a remake of 2002’s cult classic The Thing. The enhanced game is now available on PC, Xbox One and Series X/S, PlayStation 4 and 5, Nintendo Switch, and streaming with NVIDIA GeForce Now.

Originally created by Computer Artworks, Something is a third-person shooter based on John Carpenter’s 1984 film Somethingfollows a United States Special Forces team sent to the film’s arctic location to investigate what happened there. Regardless of the source, the game is well known for trust, fear, and infection programs. How you play can affect whether or not in-game characters trust you, think you’re a Thing, or become a Thing themselves.

With A Recycled ItemNightdive retains the original core mechanics and updates the visuals and engine to run on modern consoles. You can now play in 4K at up to 120 fps, with improved “character models, textures, and animations,” according to Nightdive’s announcement, as well as “enhanced 3D rendering with updated lighting and wind effects.” The game also includes trophies and achievements on PC, PlayStation and Xbox, if you want that too.

Updated version of Something was first announced in June 2024 at IGN Live, the latest in a series of rebranded game projects that Nightdive Studios has announced over the past few years. The studio was founded in 2012 to do System Shock 2 is playable on modern PCs, but has worked on everything from Turok games to Blade Runner: The Advanced Editionsince then.
