Baby powder sold on Amazon has recalled about possible asbestos contamination

Dynarex Corp. is recalling lawsuits over its Dynacare Baby Powder due to possible asbestos contamination.

According to a warning notice sent by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), 62 cases of Dynacare Baby Powder – Batch Number B 051 – were recalled after sample testing revealed that some of the finished products contained asbestos, a known carcinogen. Testing is done by the FDA.

The product was sold on Amazon and distributed in Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Kentucky, North Carolina, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Florida, Washington and Wisconsin.

Due to the FDA’s routine inspection, the company said it has “ceased distribution of the product pending an investigation to determine what caused the talc contamination.”

Dynarex Corporation is recalling 62 cases of item number 4875, Dynacare Baby Powder, Batch Number B 051, because of potential asbestos contamination. (FDA)

There has been no illness associated with the returned product to date.

According to government officials, asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that is often found near talc, an ingredient in many cosmetic products. During the mining of talc, there is a risk that the talc may become contaminated with asbestos.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has warned that breathing in asbestos can cause fine asbestos fibers to irritate lung tissue.

Research shows that breathing in asbestos can cause non-cancerous diseases, such as asbestosis and pleural disease.

However, exposure to asbestos can increase the risk of certain cancers such as lung cancer and mesothelioma, according to the CDC.
