Morrell’s Mission: Dismantle “Robocop” Benavidez In Vegas Showdown
David Morrell says WBC interim light heavyweight champion David Benavidez is a player “Robocop” who can’t dance and has “nothing” in their upcoming fight on February 1st at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Morrell (11-0, 9 KOs) sees Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs) as a man who can’t run, a robot fighter who can’t move and who couldn’t knock out Caleb Plant in their fight last year. He feels like he’ll have no problems limiting his offense, which requires his opponents to be still so he can stand and throw punches in bunches.
Morrell’s work
It will be interesting to see if Benavidez can handle the power of Morrell, 26, in this fight because Ronald Gavril dropped him in the 12th round of their first fight in 2017. Many boxing fans thought Bebafvidez lost that fight, so there was a rematch. . Benavidez also had problems in his last fight against Oleksandr Gvozdyk.
“It’s no secret to anyone that Benavidez is Robocop. That’s all. Watch Benavidez vs. Plant. It was 12 rounds. This fight revealed secrets,” said David Morrell speaking to Premier Boxing Champions, informing fans that David Benavidez is a robot and he struggled against Caleb Plant.
“I’ve never fought Plant before, but I don’t think Plant was too strong for Benavidez. He is a great guy. He’s strong, too. So, if you have good legs, train hard, are strong, and all, Benavidez now has nothing for you.
“I can dance. I have moves. Benavidez can’t dance. That’s all,” said Morrell.
What Benavidez was in the past when he campaigned at 168 against younger, older fighters ready to be beaten by the rebuilding machine is gone. He now fights at 175 and is forced to face top opposition. So far, Benavidez has not looked good in this new weight class, and there is a good chance he will lose to Morrell by knockout on February 1st.
There is a lot on the list for both fighters in this tournament. The winner will fight for the undisputed lightweight champion Artur Beterbiev or Dmitry Bivol. The loser will start over and get to the back of the line.
Given the hype and huge push the PBC has put behind Benavidez over the years, they will bring him back as soon as possible and, if possible, try to schedule a rematch with Morrell.
