Morrell Vs. Benavidez Media Workout Scheduled for December 17 before the February Clash
David Morrell and David Benavidez will hold a media workout on Tuesday, December 17, to discuss their light heavyweight championship fight. The fight will take place in 47 days, on February 1, 2025, on PBC on Prime Video PPV from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Do you avoid Morrell?
WBA ‘regular’ 175-lb champion Morrell (11-0, 9 KOs_and WBC interim champion Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs) will discuss their feud with the media. Morrell revealed recently that Benavidez is not -off and he was a different person, keeping his mouth shut.
Morrell noticed how Benavidez started opening his yap to rant after he was out of sight, seeing that the coast was clear. He feels like he’s showing the true colors of the Mexican King. In other words, he talks a lot when he is not in front of her, but when he is, he is as gentle as a lamb.
The Thin Skinned Monster
Benavidez has been visibly angry since the fight with Cuban Morrell was announced, and it’s understandable hyper-sensitive with the belief that many boxing fans have that he has avoided this fight for two years.
When Benavidez, 27, speaks, he sounds thin-skinned and affected by the lack of desire to face the talented Cuban. That’s right. Benavidez is afraid of Morrell because there are many fighters. If he loses this fight, he can forget about the dreams of a tough day against the winner of the February 22 contest between undis[utedlightheavyweightu-ArturBeterbievnoDmitryBivol[utedlightheavyweightchampionArturBeterbievandDmitryBivol
This is the most skilled fighter Benavidez will face during his 11-year professional career, and it comes at a time when he can’t afford to lose. He has a big fight ahead of him if he defeats Morrell. If Benavidez is beaten on February 1st, he can forget about it, and it could take him years to get back to where he was.
‘Mexican Monster’ Benavidez likes to portray himself as fearless, but the fact that he didn’t want to fight Morrell showed a different color. He is nervous, and some believe he only took this fight because Morrell looked human for the first time in his career against a veteran. Radivoje Kalajdzic (29-3, 21 KOs) on August 3.
Morrell still won the fight by a one-sided 12-round decision, showing more power than undisputed champion Artur Beterbiev or any of the top 175 fighters. and he could have finished with him if he had bombed him after wounding him three times in battle.
Benavidez’s mistakes
As we saw in his debut at 175 against the late former WBC champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk, Benavidez does not have the power of this division. His punches looked weak compared to Gvozdyk’s and looked out of place. Benavidez scored in that fight, which many fans believe should have been scored as a draw. However, his lack of upper body strength is a real problem.
David’s upper body resembles the arms of the extinct T-Rex dinosaur—the same vestigial features. He has no power in the light heavyweight division. If Benavidez hits the weight room, he may be able to develop some strength, but not during his match with Morrell. It’s too late for that. If Benavidez gets beaten by Morrell in the water, he’ll know what to fix.
Focus on strength training and maybe go back to 168. If Benavidez can’t swim with the sharks at 175, he has to go back to where he came from to save his career. That’s what I would do if I were him.
