Meta AI has over 500 million users

Last month at Meta Connect, Mark Zuckerberg said that Meta AI is “on track” to become the world’s most used AI assistant. The company has now surpassed a milestone in that goal, as Meta AI has passed the 500 million user mark, Zuckerberg revealed during the company’s recent earnings call.

The half-billion user mark comes less than a year after the social network first introduced its AI assistant last fall. Zuckerberg said the company still expects it to be the “most used” assistant by the end of 2024, though he didn’t specify how the company measures that metric.

Meta Assistant is not the only AI tool that improves the company’s business. Zuckerberg said AI improvements to its feed and video recommendations led to an 8 percent increase in time spent on Facebook and a 5 percent increase on Instagram this year. Advertisers are also using the company’s AI tools, he said, with more than 15 million ads created with artificial intelligence in the past month alone. “We believe there’s a lot going wrong here,” Zuckerberg said.

Besides AI, Meta’s Threads app also continues to spread. The service now has “nearly 275 million” monthly users, according to Zuckerberg. “This is growing with more than a million people signing up a day,” Zuckerberg said, adding that “marriage is growing.”
