Meghan McCain, daughter of the late Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain, called out Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday after the Democratic presidential nominee shared an anecdote about a reported affair with the six-year senator.

Harris was making waves at the Harris Republican event in Scottsdale, Arizona, on Friday afternoon when he said that John McCain, who represented the Grand Canyon State in the US Senate until his death in 2018, once praised him.

Harris said the exchange took place after he and McCain “got behind each other” at a committee hearing. The Republican reached out to him later that day, he said.

“I’m walking down the Senate floor later that day — we had the votes — and I pass John McCain, and he looks at me, and he says, ‘Kid, come here. You’re going to make a great senator,'” Harris recalled. “True story. It’s a true story.”

While addressing the crowd, Harris then praised the late Arizona senator and called him “an incredible American hero.” But Meghan McCain found the story questionable and went public with X on Friday night.

“Now, I know the democrats want to re-invent history and make my Dad do whatever trick you need to depend on the political moment you need to remember him… about Kamala Harris,” McCain wrote.

“And consider this my last warning shot, I’m going to start spilling the tea.”

On Saturday, McCain called his critics “lunatics” in response to the backlash.

“Most of the democrats resurrected on my timeline who say they know the most about my father…..is his daughter,” he wrote. “Hold on to the truth, you idiots.”

Democrats have been focusing heavily on moderate Republicans in Arizona this campaign season, and the swing state is predicted to have a major impact on the presidential election in November.

Some GOP officials in the state raised McCain’s name to show that they support Harris because John McCain had a tense relationship with former President Trump.

Speaking at the Harris conference in August, Rep. Gregory Stanton, D-Ariz.asked “John McCain Republican” to support the Harris-Walz ticket. Mesa’s Republican mayor echoed that.

“In the spirit of Sen. John McCain, please join me in putting country over party and stop Donald Trump and protect the law, protect our Constitution and protect the democracy of our great state,” said Mesa Mayor John Giles.
