McDonald’s latest company to reverse ‘woke’ DEI policies as trend continues in 2025
McDonald’s announced Monday that it is eliminating certain practices that are part of its broader inclusiveness policy, becoming the latest major company to scale back diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) policies that critics consider “rebellious.”
The fast-food giant is the first company to adjust to the DEI’s 2025 goals. Last year, dozens of companies made similar changes, including Walmart, Ford Motor Co., John Deere, Lowe’s and Toyota, after pressure from activists.

In an open letter to its franchise owners, employees and suppliers, McDonald’s expressed its success in its commitment to inclusion, one of its “core values,” and the company also said it wanted to “highlight several important changes in our approach.”
These changes included McDonald’s abandoning its “desired representation goals,” ending its DEI promise to its suppliers, changing the name of its diversity group to the Global Investment Group and ending external surveys.

Although McDonald’s did not mention any external surveys by name, the decision means it joins a long list of companies that have pledged to end participation in the Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index, an annual survey and report used to measure “policies, practices. and benefits related to same-sex, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) workers.”
McDonald’s said it began discussing the changes months ago, acknowledging that it is considering the legal situation after the Supreme Court’s 2024 ruling against affirmative action and similar actions by other companies.

Anti-resurrection activist and filmmaker Robby Starbuck, who has been leading a campaign to expose the policies of the big companies in the wake, told X after the announcement that he had warned McDonald’s three days ago that he would be reporting “on their policies” if they did not. agree to change them.
Starbuck is credited with forcing change at the aforementioned companies, along with Tractor Supply, Harley-Davidson, Polaris, Indian Motorcycle, Coors, Stanley Black & Decker, Jack Daniel’s parent Brown-Forman, DeWalt Tools, Painter, Caterpillar, Boeing and Nissan .
