Mattel’s ‘Bad’ dolls are unfortunately only for adults

They are really not bad! Mattel accidentally printed “Wicked.com” on the boxes of their new singing dolls tied to Universal Pictures’ The Wizard of Oz prequel movie, but the actual URL for the movie is WickedMovie.com, while the other web address leads to an adult-only website.

Visitors to Wicked.com are greeted with a message indicating that the page is “Restricted to adults (18+) only” and “displays sexually oriented, including revealing, pornographic material.”

Mattel is aware of the “misprint,” telling the Associated Press in a statement, “We deeply regret this serious error and are taking immediate action to correct this.” The details of Mattel’s actions are not yet clear, although the AP notes that many of the dolls – which are sold the most in the US – have been taken from online stores such as Amazon and Target.com. The toy behemoth tells worried parents with the original box to throw the packaging in the trash or keep it out of sight of children; toys for children aged four and up.

While the goof is a nightmare for Mattel, Universal may be happy with all the publicity the URL generates. The film, starring Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, and Jonathan Bailey, hits theaters on November 22.
