M4 MacBook Pros Are So Close To Release, Some Leakers Say They Already Have One

It seems that Apple is looking at Halloween as a new basis for annual product releases. According to reliable Apple rumors, full-sized candy bars from the Cupertino company will be stuck in our candy bags that include the M4 MacBook Pro models, the redesigned, smaller Mac Mini, and the iPad mini in late October or early November.

Even if you don’t care about small computers or small iPads, you may be attracted by the idea that Apple may finally make 16GB of RAM the starting point for the M4 MacBook Pro models. Well, we were tired of getting the equivalent of pretzel bag behavior on our stretched pillows with 8GB starting MacBook Pros. However, the proof is in the pudding. Although Apple is yet to confirm the launch of the new product, images and benchmarks of the latest laptops are already floating around the internet.

Apple shared its first look at the M3 MacBook Pro at its Scary Fast show last October. It’s anyone’s guess what Apple calls its next spooky product. Nevertheless, at least, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says, based on anonymous sources, that Apple will show more computers on November 1. Like last year’s launch, Gurman said we should see a low-end 14-inch MacBook. Pro with M4, and the top-of-the-line 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros. We suspect that this may include the M4 Pro and M4 Max chip, the same as the M3 lineup.

In addition, the M4 chip will be used in the new, slightly smaller Mac Mini. So far, we’ve only heard mention of the M4 Pro chip, which will be used in Apple’s NUC and high-end MacBooks. The only M4 product is Apple’s 2024 iPad Pro. We haven’t seen any specific mention of the M4 Max in recent rumors, although we suspect that the Pro and Max models will contain integrated memory and significant computing.

Gurman noted that we will also see an updated iMac. We’re hoping this year’s version will be more than just a repeat of the 2023 24-inch iMac, but let’s hold our breath. The most interesting update this time around is that we may see an updated iPad mini appear on November 1 as well. Earlier, Bloomberg’s Apple rumormonger-in-chief suggested that it may not have arrived in time for Black Friday.

We don’t have a new name for that new content, the weny iPad, although we may already know what a MacBook can do. This past weekend, Apple newshounds spotted a new Geekbench entry listed as “Mac16,1,” which they took to be related to the M4 MacBook. It scores 3,864 in single-core and 15,288 in multi-core settings. This would be a small performance-wise improvement compared to this year’s iPad Pro scores, although it’s a big jump from the M3 base MacBook Pro and M3 MacBook Airs.

Gizmodo could not independently verify those points. Instead, it’s best to consider these scores as food for thought. The new chip is said to be a 10-core variant compared to the 9-core M4 in the iPad Pro. It also claims a slightly increased clock speed than the tablet version of the chip. The form factor and increased RAM could have encouraged better scores.

At least one Facebook user claims to still have an M4 MacBook Pro. The images appeared on Facebook with details similar to Geekbench scores. The Russian-language YouTube channel also claims to have a mobile retail unit. However, we can’t give this leak nearly as much faith. The box art for both products is identical to the M3 MacBook Pros. Even if this new laptop is a special update with the same (increasingly tired) design, it would not be in Apple’s interest to confuse customers with the same product image.

It could be an early test model without new artwork, but although prototypes and renders sometimes enter the public domain, we rarely see commercial versions of Apple products leak this early.
