X users have been fleeing Bluesky and other alternatives since the US presidential election, and celebrities are joining the exodus. Here is a list of famous people who have openly said they are quitting Elon Musk’s platform in the last week or so:

1. Stephen King

Prolific author and poster Stephen King left X on Meta-owned Threads this week, saying, “I’m leaving Twitter. I tried to stay, but the atmosphere just got too dangerous.”

Actor Jamie Lee Curtis closed his X account this week, sharing a screenshot with the caption A Prayer for Peace:

4. Don Lemon

Newscaster Don Lemon has closed his X account. He shared a video on Instagram saying, “I once believed it was a place for honest debate and discussion, transparency, and free speech, but now I feel it’s not serving that purpose.” He also cited X’s new terms of service — specifically that legal disputes must be fought in rural Texas court — as a factor in his decision.

5. Bette Midler

According to sources like The Daily Beast and The Root, actress and comedian Bette Midler closed her X account after the election.

Other celebrities, such as singer Elton John and TV producer Shonda Rhimes, quit X years ago after Musk took over.
