Learn how to use Apple Intelligence’s ‘Image Playground’

Apple recently released iOS 18.1.1, but it’s iOS 18.2 that will come with interesting image generation features, such as “Image Playground,” Apple’s image creation feature that creates cartoon-like images from text descriptions.

Here’s what you need to know about the Apple Intelligence feature, including what it is, how to use it, and when it’s launching.

What is Image Playground?

Image Playground is part of Apple Intelligence, a range of AI-powered tools from Apple. The new feature allows users to enter text information, and the AI will generate a cartoon-style image.

You can access the Image Playground through the dedicated image creation app or through the Messages app by clicking the plus (+) button to the left of the text box.

The Playground app is available on the Home Screen; look for an icon that looks like a white cat or a fox (or possibly some other furry creature; not entirely sure).

How to make pictures with Playground

Using Image Playground is very easy. Similar to other image generators, there is a text input field where you can describe the image and let the AI create it for you, “like a dog blowing out birthday candles on a cake.”

If the results are not what you were looking for, you can adjust the results with more detailed descriptions or choose one of Apple’s recommendations. You will see several options of images that you can swipe through and select.

You can also upload a photo of yourself, your pet, or a family member to get an AI-generated photo of them, adding features like a party hat for them to wear or a beach background. Additionally, you can change the art style.

When does Image Playground start?

Image Playground is part of the public beta of iOS 18.2. Anyone enrolled in Apple’s beta software program can access it. The official launch is expected in December.
