DOGE will issue a regulatory status and that is the subject of the riff. The hottest ticket in Washington these days is an outfit called DOGE. If you haven’t been following the story, that’s the Department of Public Works, which is run by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy and is a private department, which is amazing.
Two stars running it used all day today on the Hill we are talking to members of both parties. President Trump is fully behind it. Most people seem to like DOGE’s work, although many people don’t quite understand what DOGE is trying to do. For example, many elected officials say how good it is to have a commission to eliminate waste, fraud and abuse, reduce government spending and reduce the budget deficit.
Well, that’s true – to an extent, but I think the DOGE’s real purpose is the larger task of stopping the unelected regulatory regime that has been treating America badly for far too long.

As Steve Forbes has pointed out, socialist-style central planning today is run by hundreds of thousands of unelected officials who wield enormous power over the economy through more than 220 regulatory agencies. That’s right. 220. That is your control situation.
In my regular conversations with Vivek Ramaswamy, it seems that cutting down the authoritarian regime and reducing the over-extended power of the executive branch is the main goal of the DOGE. I have served two presidents over the years, but I didn’t know there were more than 220 of these institutions.
Of course, American taxpayers don’t need all of them and thumbing through the many pages of the list of these agencies, it seems that many are redundant or unnecessary.
Vivek has told me several times that he intends to use Supreme Court decisions such as West Virginia v. EPA and the repeal of so-called Chevron deference, where they criticize regulators for acting without Congressional authority. That, of course, is what average editors always do. They established their own authority to govern the country – but there is no Constitutional authority, no Congressional authority, and no taxpayer authority. They just do it to improve their power.
They have been separated from it for a long time. Until now. Until DOGE. Now, Vivek and Elon aim to eliminate many of these organizations and significantly reduce the overall bureaucracy of the organization.
Another small thing is that government employees do not come to their offices to work. So government buildings are empty. Why not rent to private companies – and make money in the process?
What is that sound I hear? The collective kneeling of millions of government employees, who are worried about their jobs. Elon and Vivek also want to look at government procurement policies and, of course, look at major budget cuts.

They will work through Russ Vought’s Office of Management and Budget and his Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs to implement DOGE recommendations. The $2 billion budget cut number has been floating around for a while – that could be in 10 years or so, but in reality DOGE’s work and value is not tied to the Washington DC swamp vision of “eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse.”
The ultimate goal is to dissect the unelected regulatory landscape and determine where the alphabet agencies have been mistreating the American people. the economy for so many years. The right reason. That’s the wrap.
