Ladki Bahin Yojana Scheme: Various verification of beneficiaries in progress, says State Minister Aditi Tatkare
Maharashtra Chief Minister Aditi Tatkare on Saturday said that the process of vetting the beneficiaries of the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana is underway with the help of the transport and income tax departments.
Speaking to reporters here, the state minister for women and child development said that 4,500 women have applied to be out of the program.
Under the Mukymantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, launched by the previous Eknath Shinde-led government in August last year, women from economically weaker sections whose annual family income is less than Rs 2.5 lakh are given a monthly allowance of Rs 1,500.
The minister said that this confirmation was done in accordance with complaints by fake beneficiaries in the scheme.
Tatkare said, “There have been complaints that the annual income of some beneficiaries is more than Rs 2.5 lakh, some have more than one car, are employed in government jobs, migrated to other states after marriage.” He said cross verification is an ongoing process and will continue.
The minister said that there are approximately 4,500 women who have applied to leave this program.
Launched before the state assembly elections last year, the Ladki Bahin program is said to have played a major role in the victory of the ruling Mahayuti.
There are over 2.43 crore beneficiaries in the Ladki Bahin Yojana, which puts a burden of around Rs 3,700 crore on the country’s exchequer every month.
