Kristin Kreuk from Smallville, Erica Durance Talk Murder in Small Town
Kristin Kreuk and Erica Durance guest star in ‘Small Town Homicide.’

Based on the novels written by LR WrightSmall Town Homicide follows a police officer named Karl (Rossif Sutherland) who – along with the help of others, including his girlfriend Cassandra (Kreuk) – investigates a mysterious murder. In the next episode of the show, which will air on Tuesday, October 15, Durance makes an appearance playing Cassandra’s old friend.
“It was a lot of fun to work with [Kristin] professionally. “You know me well and in the little moments when I needed something in the scene, it was really fun,” said Durance. “I was about to get closer and he just grabbed my hand. Because there are all kinds of things you have to try to find sometimes emotionally when you’re working on something. If you don’t have a quick repartee with the other person, it makes it even more difficult. “
Kreuk felt the same way about how her “closeness” with Durance as friends benefited their work, adding, “Erica has a lot of emotional work in this episode so it was nice to be able to have a safe place to go there.” As a guest star, it’s very difficult because you come in and you usually carry the emotional part of the episode – and it’s nice to do that and not feel like an outsider. Kreuk played Clark’s next-door neighbor and longtime girlfriend Lana Lang, while Durance joined Smallville in 2004 as the true love of Lois Lane aka Superman. Durance later reprized his role alongside Welling, 47, in Crisis on Infinite Earths and when I played Supergirl’s mother, Alura Zor-El, in 10 episodes of Supergirl.
The cast of Smallville has continued to connect with fans of the show over the years by attending conferences.
“Being in the convention district is – maybe less about Erica because we see each other in person [in Vancouver] – it certainly really deepened the relationship I have [with the guys on the show] and that we have it alone,” said Kreuk Us. “It’s not what I expected.”

“[It is wonderful] to have a relationship that grows or changes over time and is able to maintain it at a certain level,” he added. “You see your friends going through things like marriage, children and there are all these different things that I’ve seen different players do that I didn’t expect them to do. So to have that level of camaraderie as a constant in this business is rare. It is actually an honor.”

Kreuk and Durance also appreciate the impact Smallville has its audience.
“It’s incredibly important to be a part of a program that is a people program. “This is the show they turn to when they’re feeling down or the show they turn to when they’re going through something really challenging in their lives,” commented Kreuk. “It has changed my whole view and my memory of the program I worked on for eight years. It’s also reassuring to understand that I’m taking myself out of the equation and seeing the system as it is for other people. “
With that amount of ongoing love and support for Smallville, it makes sense for fans to ask about a potential reboot or revival. Kreuk and Durance heard from Welling again Michael Rosenbaum teasing the animated series, which they think would be a “good version” of the screen reunion.
“Something like that can create. We could continue with the characters and see them in a different place in their lives,” explained Kreuk before revealing what he would like to see happen to his character. “Lana left the program with a lot of energy and purpose in her life, so I would like her to be able to come back and drive. Maybe it’s something he’s trying to achieve, and then something happens and he gets pulled over.”
He added: “And within that, it would be great if he and Lois could work on something together like working on solving anything that needs to be solved or helping someone. I feel like it would be nice to have something that was more functional and wasn’t dependent on Clark.”

Durance wholeheartedly agreed with Kreuk, adding, “With my character — especially when they brought her back for Disaster — you realize she’s a mother. So that reminds us of what it would be like to tell a story in a way that it’s hard to be a mother and go back to work. You can’t be all things, you do your best. … Playing a character that shows he’s still doing his best and trying to put that together.”
In the meantime, fans can tune in to Fox Murder in a Small Town to find theirs Smallville adjust the reunion. Durance is the only former Kreuk costar yet to appear – but there’s always hope for more. “It’s funny because they were talking about Michael Rosenbaum for a certain role. Michael is a guy who likes to keep himself busy, but he doesn’t like to go to work. He doesn’t like to leave Los Angeles that much — and especially his home in Los Angeles,” Kreuk joked. “But he would have been great in the role. The actor we ended up with was great. But I think if people are willing to say yes, there’s a lot of potential for someone to come forward and play an interesting character because the role of a guest star on Murder in a Small Town is usually very interesting.”
