Kids with Android phones will soon be able to use Google Wallet tap-to-pay

Kids will soon be able to download the Google Wallet app to their Android phone, allowing them to buy things in-store with Google’s tap-to-pay feature, reports 9 on 5 Google. The news comes after Google first added the feature to the kid-focused Fitbit Ace LTE fitness tracker in August.

In the statement given 9 on 5 Googlethe company said there will be ways for parents to control their use, by controlling the approval of new cards, issuing cards, and viewing transaction history. Parents can monitor children’s accounts with the Google Family Link app that allows parents to set limits on content and screen time, and adds the ability to see when children leave school and come home in 2022.

Kids will be able to shop to pay using standard authentication options, including fingerprints, facial recognition, PINs, or passwords. They can also use Google Wallet to store gift cards and event tickets, but they can’t make online purchases or store health cards or IDs. The Google Kids payments feature will begin rolling out to Google Wallet users in the US and several other countries next year.

On the move, Google is teaming up with Apple, whose Apple Cash Family service already allows children to use Apple Pay for purchases in stores. It also allows children to buy things online and send and receive money through messages.
