Julia Stiles On Her ’10 Things I Hate About You’ Character Kat
Julia Stiles she is known as a former movie queen – and perhaps her most famous character is Kat Stratford from 10 Things I Hate About You.
The smart, strong-willed high school girl always spoke her mind and tried to avoid what others thought of her in the process. Stiles, 43, believes he would still do the same today.
When asked where he thought Kat would be now, Stiles said Vogue“I hope I am very happy when I leave school. He might be touring with a rock band or living in a small house in Costa Rica, making his own sourdough bread, and not having any screens near him. And, he’s totally in the surf.”

When recalling what it was like to work with Ledger – who died at the age of 28 on January 22, 2008, following a drug overdose – Stiles said the Oscar winner was “a shining light.”
“He had great energy, he was kind. He was magnetic, kind, and we all had a great time working on that film,” he said Vogue. “I am very grateful that you have been kind to me. It’s my first experience leading a big studio film, and, especially, in romantic situations, you have to feel really comfortable with someone who’s acting opposite, and it made me very comfortable.”
People are still worried about their relationship and the Gil Junger-generally directed film. Twenty-five years after its release, Stiles thinks fans still hold the film in high esteem because “the writing was so good.”
“It was a brilliant group of women writers, Karen McCullah again Kirsten Smithwho in many ways – like Kat Stratford – didn’t compromise their wit, humor and sense of style,” Stiles said. Vogue. “They were very pioneering, and they were like, ‘This is our personality and our sense of humor and this is what the movie is going to be,’ and I think that honesty is how the audience responds.”
After the success of 10 ThingsStiles continued to play Down to You, Save the Last Dance, O, Prince and meonce The Bourne Identity franchise. Today, she is a busy mother of three children, who lives with her husband Preston J. Cookdespite being an actor, writer and director.

“I wanted to make a romantic movie that was about people,” Stiles said Us Weekly about the project, which premiered on Friday, January 17.
She also admitted that being a mother was “the best training for being a director.”
“You must be good at managing time, be a multitasking person. You have to be there but also think 10 steps ahead. You have to be able to work well since you don’t sleep well,” he joked.
The actress added that in both coaching and parenting you have to “manage people’s emotions and needs but also direct them,” concluding, “One hundred percent [it’s] the best training.”
