Johnny Gaudreau’s Wife Meredith Shares Matthew’s Speech At Her Wedding

Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, September 24, to share a video of her late brother, Matthew Gaudreaugiving a speech at her September 2021 wedding to Johnny, Meredith wrote that she hoped Matthew would “take care” of Johnny.
“Take care of me John Matty 🖤🤍 I love and miss you both. Give John a big hug from me 😘😘😘,” she captioned the heartbreaking video.
Johnny and Matthew both died on the night of August 29 after being involved in a bicycle accident in Oldmans Township, New Jersey. It was the night before her sister Katie’s wedding. Johnny was 31 and Matthew was 29.

In Meredith’s video, Matthew can be seen taking the microphone before sharing some heartfelt words with the couple and their guests. “John and I have been inseparable all our lives. Whenever you saw me, John was around. If you see John, I’m following him,” Matthew told the room. “When we were not together because of hockey, we still took care of each other.”
Meredith and Johnny have two children together: daughter Noah, 23 months, and son Johnny Jr., born in February.
Just days after Johnny’s death, Meredith marked what would have been the couple’s third anniversary via Instagram. “I have never sent so much but John deserves it. 3 years ago today I was yours forever,” Meredith captioned the September 4 post. “One of the best days of my life, including the night we got engaged and the days we brought our children into the world.”
She shared several photos of their wedding and honeymoon, capturing the couple down on one knee as they got married, sharing their first dance and chilling poolside and at the beach.

It is suspected that Higgins, who has been arrested and charged with two counts of vehicular manslaughter, was drunk at the time of the incident.
After the loss of her husband, Meredith shared several tributes on social media in honor of Johnny.
“Thank you for the best years of my life. Despite losing you, I’m still the luckiest girl in the world to be yours,” she captioned Instagram on August 31 when she broke her silence after the tragedy. “I love you so much. You were perfect. Some days it felt too good to be true. I love everything about you. You are mine forever and I can’t wait to be with you again. I love you so much forever and ever.”
