Jermall Charlo Will Return to Gervonta Davis-Lamont Roach Dec. 14 PPV Show in Houston

Jermall Charlo got a homecoming fight to complete his latest ring cap.
The Ring has confirmed that the former two division roster will return to the ring on December 14. Charlo (33-0, 22 knockouts) will appear in the Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis-Lamont Roach PBC on Prime Pay-Per-View. event from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
His opponent had not been identified as of press time. However, The Ring has learned that the leading candidate is Thomas ‘Cornflake’ LaManna (38-5-1, 17 KOs). Such a fight would take place in the super middleweight category.
PBC quarterback Al Haymon was trying to fill in for the injured Nico Collins on his NFL Fantasy Football team and was unable to comment.
Charlo from Houston will be out of the ring for a little over a year with fight night. He ended a 29-month absence from the ring with a ten-round victory over Jose Benavidez Jr. (28-3-1, 19 KOs) last November 25 in Las Vegas. Charlo exceeded the agreed-upon weight for this bolt, looking to survive 166.4 kilograms of work.
That way he will come for his second fight in a row at super middleweight. Charlo has held the IBF junior middleweight and WBC middleweight belts.
Previous rumors claimed that Charlo could face Demetrius Andrade who held the two divisions. However, The Ring confirmed that it was false hope and that such a match was not budgeted for the Davis-Roach undercard.
Charlo’s last fight at home was a points win in June 2021 against Juan Macias Montiel (23-6-2, 23 KOs). The fight took place again at the Toyota Centre, and this is the fourth and final defense of his WBC middleweight title.
Personal issues forced an extended break. Also came the canceled June 2022 title defense against Maciej Sulecki at the same venue.
Charlo was eventually stripped of the WBC 160-pound belt due to his inability to defend against interim roster and mandatory challenger Carlos Adames (24-1, 18 KOs). The title ‘Champion in Recess’ was given to Charlo, although he should not return to middleweight.
If this matchup happens, it will mark the third fight of LaManna’s over 160 career.
The 32-year-old from southern New Jersey has won eight in a row since losing in May 2021 to Erislandy Lara. The fight comes with the second version of the WBA middleweight title. Lara has been promoted to the full roster, while LaManna has been on the comeback trail.
In his most recent start, LaManna scored a second-round knockout of the often-served Juan Carlos Abreu (26-8-1, 24 KOs). Their confrontation on June 8 took place in LaManna’s hometown of Atlantic City.
