The Israeli army sent tanks into the western part of the Gaza Strip in Nuseirat on Monday in a raid on the center, and Palestinian health officials said Israeli military strikes had killed at least 11 people since Sunday night.
Residents say Israeli tanks opened fire as they entered that part of the camp, one of eight historic refugee camps in the Gaza Strip, causing panic among residents and displaced families.
Another resident, Zaik Mohammad, said the advance of the tanks was a miracle.

Airstrike hits tent camp
In the night and Monday attacks, health officials said seven people died in Nuseirat from two different Israeli planes, one of which hit a tent.
In the northern city of Gaza, Beit Lahiya, where Israeli forces have been operating since October 5, health officials said four people died in an Israeli air strike.
At the Kamal Adwan Hospital near Beit Lahiya, health officials said Israeli fire from a helicopter wounded three medical workers at the facility.
There was no comment from Israel on Monday’s violence.
Israel’s military said it killed a senior commander of the Hamas-affiliated Islamic Jihad group, Mohammad Abu Skhail, in a strike on Saturday at a command center in a former school in Gaza City. Palestinian doctors said the attack killed six people.
Hospital siege
Israeli forces have besieged three hospitals in and around Jabalia for several weeks and hospital officials have refused orders to evacuate the facilities or leave patients unattended, despite a lack of food or medical supplies and fuel.

The army sent tanks to Beit Lahiya, Beit Hanoun, and the Jabalia camp in northern Gaza about a month ago. It said it has killed hundreds of youths in and around Jabalia since the attack began.
The armed wing of Hamas and Islamic Jihad said their fighters had ambushed, fired and fired rockets, saying they had killed dozens of Israeli soldiers in recent weeks.
