Floyd Schofield Sr. says his son Floyd Jr. (18-0, 12 KOs) could face Edwin De Los Santos or Andy Cruz for the WBA belt in 2025.
It would be a huge jump in competition for the 22-year-old Schofield to fight either power puncher De Los Santos or 2020 Olympic gold medalist Andy Cruz (4-0, 2 KOs) for the WBA belt. Those are advanced fighters, and Schofield may not be ready to face any of those killers.

De Los Santos (16-2, 14 KOs) hasn’t fought in a year since losing a 12-round decision to Shakur Stevenson for the vacant WBC lightweight belt on Nov. 16. It’s unknown if De Los Santos will retire. return to the ring against Schofield in what could be a tough fight.
Schofield Expects World Title Shot in 2025
It is unknown if Tank Davis plans to move up to 140 or go without the belts and save money on the expensive sanctions the champions are stuck paying. Tank has become famous enough that he no longer needs a world title to validate him in the eyes of the boxing public.
Whoever Schofield fights for the WBA title, he will need to raise his game from the way he did in his last fight against Rene Tellez Giron on November 2. Schofield was knocked out in the 11th round and took several heavy shots. Giron was nowhere near the talent level of De Los Santos, Cruz, or Tank.

Keyshawn is targeting WBO lightweight champion Denys Berinchyk for a world title shot in 2025, and he won’t want a tough fight with Schofield. Top Rank defended Keyshawn, carefully comparing him to the way Edgar Berlanga did before bailing them out.
Cruz or De Los Santos of Schofield
“It doesn’t look like Shakur will fight for the title. So, we will wait to see who they give us. Probably Edwin [De Los Santos] or maybe a boy [Andy Cruz] defeating Keyshawn in the Novice Olympics. One of those two,” said Schofield Sr.
It will be either Cruz or De Los Santos that Schofield fights, but he may live to regret fighting either of them. His last fight against Giron showed that he is NOT ready to fight the Cuban Andy Cruz or the big striker De Los Santos.
Cruz will be the tougher of the two because of his boxing skills and pedigree. De Los Santos’ money in his fight with Shakur last year may have killed his desire before he got a payday.
“Yes, it must be him because he is under us [De Los Santos]. I don’t think it should be Frank Martin,” Schofield Sr. said. “Edwin is #3, and Andy [Cruz] is #4, so that would make sense.
“It’s not a jump. “Rene is the toughest,” Schofield Sr. said. when asked if it would be a big jump for Floyd Jr. to go from fighting Rene Tellez Giron in his last fight to fighting Cruz or De Los Santos for the WBA title. “Rene is the strongest, and he hits the hardest.”
Schofield Sr. he is deluding himself if he believes that Rene Giron is a tougher fight for his son than Cruz and De Los Santos. Giron is nowhere near the level of those two fighters, and Schofield went with him for life and death.
“Shakur has got ten hits. Rene got one more hit than Shakur. Edwin is cracking, but I don’t think he’ll have the chin that Rene had.”
