Is Benavidez Cracking Under Pressure? Morrell Reveals Pre-War Jitters
David Morrell says ‘Mexican Monster’ David Benavidez should not “panic” and make pre-fight excuses ahead of their February 1 light heavyweight bout. Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs) spoke about his concerns about Morrell’s VADA test.
Desperate Measures
Morrell (11-0, 9 KOs) sees interim WBC 175-lb champion Benavidez cooking the PED excuse to give his fans to explain to him ‘what went wrong’ after losing the fight. If he tells fans he thinks Morrell, 26, was dirty, they will sympathize and not condemn him en masse.
Without an excuse to explain the defeat, fans will jump on the sinking ship of Benavidez, as the mice left the floating ship on the high seas. It would not be possible for him to bring them back unless he came up with an excuse and they would believe.
Many were willing to give Benavidez a pass for his last fight against Oleksandr Gvozdyk when he said he was battling injuries. No x-rays were shown to confirm the injury, but fans still believed in him because it was the first time.
Hopefully, Benavidez will show class if he loses rather than talking about his allegations without any supporting information to prove it.
Cuba’s Morrell says Benanavidez has fought guys who weren’t his level all his career, but now that he’s facing someone his level, he’s scared and talking about PEDs to stop the blow if he gets hit.
Insecurity Benavidez
“He should not be afraid. All his life he fights with fighters who are not on his level. This happens when they are scared. They started using excuses from everywhere,” said David Morrell speaking to Sean Zittel, in response to talk about the VADA inspection before their fight on February 1.
It’s the first time in Benavidez’s 12-year career that he’s fought someone in a 50-50 fight, and it’s surprising how he stooped to this level to stir up PED talk. Is it mind games for Benavidez to get a much-needed edge against the younger, faster, stronger, and more skilled Morrell?
You can understand why Benavidez would be worried about this fight. If he loses, his dreams of a mega-million fight against Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol 2 rematch will lose, and he will never get a chance to fight Canelo Alvarez, either. He will be one of 175 contestants, fighting in the salt mines, not making much money.
