Instagram will let you rebuild your recommendations from scratch

Instagram is testing a new feature that will allow users to completely update the content recommended on the platform. The recommendation reset feature will “roll out globally soon,” according to Meta’s announcement, and can be used to clear algorithmic content that currently appears in Feeds, Explore, and Reels.

The new feature will be available to users of all ages, including New accounts. “We want to make sure that everyone on Instagram – especially young people – has a safe, positive, age-appropriate experience and feels that the time they spend on Instagram is important,” said Meta. “We want to give young people new ways to shape their Instagram experience, so they can continue to reflect their interests and passions as they develop.”

Recommendations can be deleted with “just a few taps,” according to Meta, and will “begin to personalize over time” based on the accounts and content the user continues to interact with. Users will also be able to review which accounts they are currently following upon reset to decide if they want to unfollow them, which helps shape new recommendations that will evolve.
