India is adding a record renewable energy capacity of about 30 GW by 2024

India has recorded a record high renewable energy addition of about 30 GW in 2024, more than 113 percent over the 13.75 GW recorded in 2023, according to a report by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.

This assumes importance in view of India’s ambitious plan to have a renewable energy capacity of 500 GW in the country by 2030.

In addition, India needs to add an average of 50 GW of renewable energy annually over the next six years to meet its targets.

“The significant growth from 13.75 GW in 2023 to about 30 GW in 2024, resulting in a total of about 218 GW now underlines India’s growing commitment to clean energy and progress in building a green future,” said the Energy Minister. New & Renewable Pralhad Joshi on post. in X.

According to the ministry’s data, India had 35.84 GW of renewable energy as of March 31, 2014.

Since the financial year 2014-15, when the NDA government took over at the Centre, India has recorded a maximum renewable energy addition of 18.48 GW by 2023-24.

The government is looking to add 50GW of renewable electricity capacity annually to meet its 500GW target by 2030.
