IBMW BEV is up 19% this year
The BMW Group increased its sales of fully electric vehicles by +19.1% in the first nine months of 2024, with a total of 294,054 BEVs delivered to customers, it said.
During this period, BMW brand sales of all-electric models increased by +22.6% to 266,151 vehicles. The MINI brand increased sales of fully electric vehicles by +54.3% in the third quarter, delivering 16,536 BEVs to customers.
“Our fully electric vehicles are winning customers all over the world – as shown by the significant double-digit growth in BEV sales during the first nine months of the year,” said Jochen Goller, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG Customer, Products, Sales. “We have also increased our sales in the European region. Our attractive model range, designed for technological openness, has gained popularity in the market, despite the overall challenging conditions. The BMW brand took part of the European market and is doing better than the rest of the market in this region,” he said.
However, the news was not so good for overall sales – sales in China were down 13.1% in the first nine months of the year and 24.1% down in Q3.
The BMW Group delivered 1,754,158 vehicles to customers in the year to the end of September (-4.5%). It said the decline was due to delivery stoppages related to the Integrated Braking System (IBS), which significantly affected the third quarter, and ‘difficult market conditions in China’.
In Europe, the BMW brand delivered 577,803 vehicles to customers between January and the end of September (+7.6%), with the highest demand in countries including the UK, Italy and France. BMW’s fully electric range also performed exceptionally well in the European region, with vehicles delivered to 121,844 customers – an increase of +35.8%.
Between January and September, the BMW brand experienced strong demand for fully electric models, with 266,151 vehicles sold (+22.6%). Most notably, the BMW iX1 and BMW i4 showed good sales growth, the company said.
BMW sold 1,583,485 vehicles (-2.3%) in the year to the end of September. BMW M GmbH delivered 146,574 vehicles in the first nine months of 2024 (+2.0%), growth driven by the BMW M2 and BMW M3 Touring models, among others. The MINI company delivered 166,703 vehicles (-20.9%) to customers in the year to the end of September.
