Pegula: The Swiatek Case Stirs Faith and Frustration
The 2021 Miami Open champion, formerly of Yonex, took out his new Wilson stick at the United Cup earlier this month partnering world No. 2 Iga Swiatek to help Poland reach the final.
“Wilson is a Tennis brand, and it was great to learn more about their selection of performance racquets used by some of the best players on Tour,” said Hubert Hurkacz. “After many tests, I am very excited to raise my game with the Blade v9 racquet.”
It’s a season of transition for former international Hurkacz, who is working with new coaches Ivan Lendl and Nicolas Massu.
Hurkacz switched to the Wilson Blade, in part, to try to generate more spin from his flat front.
The 27-year-old Hurkacz has one of the heaviest players in the sport and a devastating two-handed arm. Hurkacz was second to Alexander Zverev in aces last season (736) and fourth on the ATP in service games held (88.71%) behind only Alexander Zverev, Jannik Sinner and Ben Shelton in that category.
If Hurkacz can generate more spin and race from the front with his new Wilson Blade, he has the skills to make a Top 10 comeback.
“Wilson is committed to making a positive impact on the game of Tennis at all levels. “An important part of doing that is working with elite athletes to gain valuable information that will continue to change the game,” said Jason Collins, Global General Manager of Wilson Racquet Sports. “We are delighted to welcome Hubi to the Wilson team, and look forward to supporting his continued success on Tour.”
