How to stop the Electoral College from appearing on your home screen

Some iOS users with Washington Post Installed apps are likely to look down at their device tonight to find a dark, unexpelled revolution swirling around their screen, with the election vote tally in the 2024 presidential race slowly creeping upward. (On my personal iPhone it looks like an island of power.) When you click on it it just expands to give you more information about the race, as well as thumbnails of the candidates, which is decidedly not the content you’re looking for if you’re just trying to find a button to get everything going.

It took me a little bit of jumping around to figure out how to remove it, but here’s how to bypass Electoral College hell on iOS:

Go to yours Settings. Select Applications below. Scroll down to Wash Post operating system. Click on Live Activities. Close the conversion Enable Live Jobs. The hell shift should disappear.

Turn off “Enable Live Operations” if you want to remove the change in the election count.

If you want to retrieve it, open it Enable Live Jobs again, then enter Washington Post operating system. Click the gear wheel icon in the top right to access your settings. Select Live Work Settings and turn on the toggle to allow live updates of the presidential election. You may also need to click on “Begin the Presidency” below that.

Apparently Apple News is also flexible as hell, and it’s likely to be broken into your iOS settings in the same way. I don’t bother with the Apple News hell-toggle, so I wouldn’t know.
