How Did ‘Yellowstone’ Season 5 End? Breaking down [Spoiler’s] Death

YellowstoneSeason five has come to a close, and nothing will ever be the same at Dutton Ranch.

After weeks of threatening Jamie (Wes Bentley), Beth (Kelly Reilly) came to his promise to avenge the death of his father, John Dutton (Kevin Costner), Sunday, December 15, at the end of the season. After John’s funeral, Beth waits for Jamie at his house and attacks him with bear spray. The two have a violent argument before Beth informs him that she has sold the farm for $1.1 million on a reservation. Continue (Cole Hauser) arrives and pulls Jamie out of Beth, only for Beth to stab him to death. (Rip later took Jamie’s body to the train station to hide the evidence.)

Earlier in the episode, Kacey (Luke Grimes) refers to a vision he had at the end of season 4, where he realized he had two options: save his family or the farm. He decides to save his family and sell the property to Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) for $1.25 per acre – the same price his ancestors bought – under the condition that Kayce could keep East Camp and that Thomas would never develop or sell the property. Thomas and Kayce share a blood oath, making them brothers to each other and to the world.

As for the bunkhouse crew, Walker (Ryan Bingham) follows Laramie (Hassie HarrisonTexas, Jimmy (Jefferson White) returns to Four Six with fiancée Emily (Kathryn Kelly) and Teeter (Jen Landon) asked Travis (Yellowstone producer Taylor Sheridan) for work at Bosque Ranch. Jake (Jake Ream) and Ethan (Ethan Lee) took jobs at N Bar Ranch in Montana, and Lloyd (Forrie J. Smith) is looking for a job in West Yellowstone. Ryan (Ian Bohen) is the first to leave, heading to Fort Worth, Texas, to see Abby (Lainey Wilson) during his show at Billy Bob’s Texas in Forth Worth, where he said he loved her.

Looking to the future, Beth buys him a farm 40 miles west of Dillon, Rip and Carter (Finn Little), while Kayce – who teased that she plans to start her own brand – is enjoying life at East Camp with Monica (Kelsey Asbille) and Tate (Brecken Merrill).

The second part of the YellowstoneThe fifth season premiered in November, nearly two years after season 5A wrapped in January 2023. The show’s return was initially delayed amid reports that Sheridan and Costner were clashing over filming schedules. Both men denied the speculation at the time, but Costner, 69, confirmed his departure from the western game earlier this year. Season 5B was also delayed by two WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes from last year.

The premiere of season 5B finally confirmed how Sheridan, 54, wrote Costner’s character. The police found John’s body in the governor’s mansion and initially decided that his suicide was a suicide. It was soon revealed that Sara Atwood (Dawn Olivieri) had hired a gunman to kill John and set up a scene.

Sarah said she did it for Jamie – who last season wanted her father out – but Dutton, who did not live with her, was unhappy with the way she took things. Things got worse for Jamie when Sarah died with him, he met his end when a group of gunmen killed him in order to distance himself from John’s murder.

Beth and Kayce, on the other hand, never believed that their father had died by suicide and soon discovered that there was a crook at work. They quickly suspect Jamie and make it their mission to ruin his life (Beth reminds him along the way that he wasn’t really Dutton in the first place).

While the season 5B finale was originally supposed to be Yellowstone‘s series finale, it now appears that the show will continue in a different direction. Earlier this month, Variety again Deadline reported that Reilly, 47, and Hauser, 49, have finalized deals to reprise their roles as Beth and Rip in the spinoff series. In accordance with Deadlinethe new show will have the word “Yellowstone” in the title — unlike previous spinoffs 1883 again 1923 – because it will share “a lot of DNA” with the flagship series.

Last month, Reilly said he would be happy no matter what Yellowstonethe conclusion.

“I liked this season. There were really different places to explore, so I didn’t stick with him. I’m happy to put him back in his locked box,” she said City and country in the November cover story. “I really admire Beth, and who she is after certain things happen. Who is he in peace? As an actor you’re like, ‘Ooh, let me in on that.’ Wouldn’t it be fun to watch Beth go to therapy?”
