A man who worked for the United States government overseas has been charged with leaking classified information before Israel attacked Iran last month, according to media reports citing court documents.

The man, identified as Asif William Rahman, was arrested by the FBI this week in Cambodia and was scheduled to make his first court appearance in Guam, the Associated Press reported Wednesday.

Rahman was indicted last week in a US court in Virginia on two counts of disclosing national security information under the Espionage Act, and could face a long prison sentence.

The New York Times reported that Rahman was employed by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), adding that the CIA did not comment on the matter.

The leaked documents were prepared by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGIA), which analyzes images and information collected by American spy satellites, the newspaper reported.

NGIA conducts operations in support of US military covert operations.

The documents appeared last month on the channel of the Telegram messaging app. The documents revealed that Israel was moving military equipment to carry out a military strike in response to Iran’s October 1 ballistic missile attack.

Israel carried out retaliatory attacks on several locations in Iran in late October.

After the attack, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei warned Israel and the US of a “repressive response” to actions against Iran and its allies, according to state media.
