HDMI 2.2 will be announced at CES 2025
HDMI 2.2, the new HDMI specification is scheduled to debut in early January.
In an email sent to media outlets, including Mashable, the HDMI Forum, which oversees the development of the HDMI specification, said HDMI 2.2 will be announced on Jan. 6 in Las Vegas, a day before the official start of CES.
Not much was shared beyond the details of the press conference at the largest consumer technology conference. But the email said the new HDMI 2.2 specification “will support many higher resolutions and refresh rates.”

As Tom’s Guide pointed out, the announcement date coincides with scheduled press events from Nvidia and AMD. Both companies are expected to announce new GPUs (GeForce RTX 50 from Nvidia and Radeon RX 8000 from AMD). If so, the launch may be timed to comply with the new HDMI standard.
The current HDMI standard, HDMI 2.1, was introduced in 2017. The latest HDMI 2.1 update supports 48Gbps bandwidth, up to 10K resolution, and has a refresh rate of up to 120Hz in 4K. So whatever the HDMI 2.2 features are it should be a significant improvement in this respect. Mashable will be on the ground at CES covering this, and other tech news.
