Devin Haney posted on Instagram today, telling his followers that he is “working in peace” and “remembering the faces” of his “doubters”. This bittersweet message shows that Haney was like that towards his loss to Ryan Garcia and he wants to show people how wrong they were about him.
The humiliating loss must be hard for former two-division world champion Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) to digest as he replays the memory of his three-time left hand loss to Kingry on April 20 at the Barclays Center. Brooklyn, New York.
It must be like an old movie, with the bullets in Devin’s head, and you probably wish you had done things differently. Haney’s self-isolating behavior is a classic example of responding with shame to someone who has failed. It would help Haney if he could come back stronger, improved, and ready to avenge his loss.

“Definitely. No matter what happens, he doesn’t quit like Ryan quit against Tank Davis. That’s why he’s known as a quitter,” said Bill Haney on the Danza Project, talking about how Devin didn’t quit when he fought Ryan Garcia. “Devin is a hero.
“It was a combination of Devin not being Devin and trying to be what the fans wanted to see,” Bill said of why Haney lost to Garcia. “Until then, they said he has no heart and will not stand in the middle of the ring.
“He [Haney] stood in the middle of the ring with someone we didn’t consider Ostarine. We never thought he would be so strong. One thing about Ostarine is that it helps with recovery. It helps in strength and power. All those things,” Bill said about why Devin lost to Kingry.
The reason why Devin lost the fight was not because he was standing “in the middle of the ring” against Garcia. Where Haney lost the fight was his constant jabbing habit, which put him in the position of Ryan’s short left shots.
This is where Devin ate the guns. He was reaching and retreating with his crouch, and that made it easy for Kingry to catch the short left hook of the check he liked to throw. If Devin’s training team knew what they were doing, they would have warned him not to get too caught up because that style was made for Garcia.
It may have worked for Haney in his fights with George Kambosos Jr, Regis Prograis, and Jorge Linares, but using the same tactic against Garcia was dumb. That’s why he lost. How does Bill not know that?
Time Wasted
“It was a huge injustice done to a wonderful person who has done nothing but good business. The fans, they are the ones who buy the pay-per-views. You want to please them. Devin wants to make his games exciting so he can come out and fight that way. It wasn’t a winning game plan, but I can still support my boy 1000% because he went to war. He went in there like a hero. He’s out, I couldn’t be prouder of him,” Bill said of Devin.
Of concern is how much time Haney has been in the ring since his loss to Ryan. All this energy put into the case may not pay for Haney, who loses time in his career and may not be eligible in the end. It is not clear if this is the Bill driving the plan, but it is not a good thing for Devin if he loses a year of his work waiting for the case to be concluded.
