Google CEO Sundar Pichai announces $120M fund for global AI education

Speaking on Saturday at the UN Summit of the Future, Google CEO Sundar Pichai described AI as “the most transformative technology of the moment” and announced a new fund for AI education and training around the world.

Photosi outlined four broad opportunities he sees in AI and sustainable development: helping people acquire knowledge in their own language, accelerating scientific discovery, providing warnings and tracking climate disasters, and promoting economic progress.

Photosi acknowledged that AI also presents risks, for example with deep lies, although he did not talk about AI’s impact on the climate.

He added that he wants to avoid a global “AI myth” and that Google is creating a $120 million Global AI Opportunity Fund that will “make AI education and training available to communities around the world” in partnership with local nonprofits and NGOs.

In the same theme, Photosi called for “intelligent product regulation that minimizes harm and resists the desire to protect the country” – besides, he predicted that the regulation “could expand the isolation of AI and limit the benefits of AI.”
