Godzilla Crosses Over With Marvel Again For Everyone To Fight

You know, it wasn’t long ago that Marvel had separate covers featuring Godzilla against the likes of the Avengers and Spider-Man. Toho’s giant lizard will take it out on us or anyone these days, no matter how big they are. So you won’t be surprised that those covers were a foreshadowing of what would actually ruin the days of Marvel’s A-list superheroes.

On Thursday, The Hollywood Reporter launched Godzilla vs. marvel, the publisher’s first crossover with the character since 1977 Godzilla, King of the Monsters. This new event is a one-shot series where the King will face (or meet) various Marvel heroes from across the decades. First is the story of Ryan North and John Romita Jr. of the meeting with the Fantastic Four, who battled King Ghidorah after he became Galactus’ new Herald. As the Four face off against a new cosmic dragon, Godzilla and the Silver Surfer must team up to save the planet.

According to Marvel EiC CB Cebulski, the company initially talked to Toho about reprinting those old comics, but the discussions eventually made it clear “both of our teams are excited to do more together. These crossovers are coming together, in direct collaboration with Toho, and we felt the timing was perfect for Godzilla’s 70th anniversary.” As Marvel’s comics/franchise president Dan Buckley notes, Godzilla’s has been a hit lately Godzilla Minus One and the MonsterVerse movies are made in America, so Marvel couldn’t get in on that—and if this can be a hit, Cebulski said Marvel would be more than happy to work with Toho on more “exciting projects.”

“Kaiju—and especially Godzilla—are important parts of Marvel comics history, so we knew we wanted to explore something with their teams,” Buckley said. “It’s part of our current zeitgeist and a great example of the fun that the comedy industry brings. We’re focused on storytelling first and foremost, but exciting crossover opportunities like this one give our fans both an exciting escape they won’t want to miss.”

Godzilla vs. Fantastic Four kicks things off in March 2025. Future issues and their creators will be revealed later.
