Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis responded to Floyd Schofield’s disparity last Saturday against an inspired Rene Tellez Giron, teasing him about his struggle to win the fight. Davis replied:I’m getting my food,” suggesting he wants to fight #2 WBA ranked Schofield.

Schofield is the top contender for Tank Davis’ WBA belt, as long as he doesn’t vacate it, and it would be an interesting fight for fans compared to his current bout with super featherweight Lamont Roach Jr. zero power and is a protective wizard.
Tank has disappointed fans with his choice of opponents for the past six years since 2018, and Schofield will be a welcome improvement. A fight between Tank Davis and Schofield will be more exciting for fans than a match between the Baltimore native and Shakur Stevenson.
The WBA lightweight champion, Tank Davis, said that Schofield “18-0, 12 KOs) was beaten by Giron (20-4, 13 KOs) in their fight at The Theater in Virgin Hotels Las Vegas.
Schofield was injured in the third round by a blow to the back of the head from Giron during an exchange. When Schofield returned to his corner after the end of the round, he missed the chair as he landed and fell to the canvas. Later in the fight, Schofield was knocked down in the eleventh round when he was caught by Giron’s left hand as he attempted to hit him with a right uppercut.
Despite those two incidents, Schofield still won the fight with a 12-round unanimous decision, scores 118-109, 116-111, and 118-109. Compared to other undercard fights on Golden Boy’s promoted card.
Schofield’s was one of the most crowded shows. That’s his fighting style, which was more fun to watch than the fighter on the Top Rank card shown on ESPN last Saturday night. That was a dull and painful battle, just like in the previous encounter.
Tank Davis has a title defense against Lamont Roach coming up at a date to be determined in January. But with that fight out, it could pave the way for Schofield to challenge Tank for his WBA title in mid-2025.
