George Kittle’s wife Claire Kittle has no problem being called a ‘WAG’

Claire Kittle she’s more than just a football star’s wife, but she doesn’t mind being called a WAG.

Kittle, 30, is married to the San Francisco 49ers star George Kittle since April 2019 and adopted the sports acronym, which stands for Wives and Girlfriends, which is often used to describe the partners of professional athletes.

“It’s short and fast, you know?” Kittle said talking to him Us Weekly for his collaboration with the Gatorade Hydration Booster. “What else can have the same effect? It works!

In 2010, the Equalities and Human Rights Commission criticized the term WAG as “sexist,” “derogatory” and said it was often used “to stigmatize a group of women.”

Kittle told E! the original series WAGSwhich premiered in 2015 and followed a cast of wives and girlfriends of professional athletes. It also spawned spinoffs WAGS Miami again WAGS Atlanta.

“Of course, [the term] something is missing because of the series,” said Kittle. “It was like a drama series. My experience has not been like that. Especially not here.”

Kittle developed a close-knit community with other wives within the 49ers organization, including Kristin Juszczykthe wife of the surname Kyle Juszczykagain Olivia Culpothe wife of the runaway Christian McCaffrey.

“It’s unbelievable here,” Kittle said. “This is our eighth year, which is unusual for him to play for one team throughout his career so far. We are blessed and very grateful to be a part of this organization. They are at the top of the NFL and you will hear that from other families as well.”

On the topic of WAGs around the NFL, Kittle said there is “absolutely no” rivalry between the 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs, including Taylor Swift and his growing band of football friends.

“Women are more focused on sports. They’re very interested in what’s going on,” Kittle noted. “That’s good for all teams. I am big on empowering women. We can all be good, we can all succeed.”

However, Kittle joked, “Unless we’re playing with them, it’s a different story.”

To prepare for game day, Kittle has partnered with the Gatorade Hydration Booster to make sure he’s ready to meet the deadline.

“It’s a neat little packet full of electrolytes and vitamins,” he explained. “It makes staying hydrated really, really easy. Especially on the go, you can put it in your bag. Or put it in your bag when you travel. I love it.”
