Fury’s Retirement: Hearn Calls It “Natural Play” For Bigger Payday

Eddie Hearn doubts Tyson Fury’s retirement is a serious one that will last long. Hearn says Fury retired to “Make sure somebody pays you to come out of retirement.” In other words, the ‘king of Gyspy’ is cheating to get a huge mega-million offer to come out of retirement to face Anthony Joshua in ‘Battle of Britain.’

Hearn’s promoter is NOT happy that former WBC heavyweight champion Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) announced his retirement today because he hopes to fight Anthony Joshua twice in 2025. With Fury retiring, Joshua doesn’t have much of a choice.

There’s the winner of Daniel Dubois vs. Joseph Parker, and whatever Hearn wins. Dubois may retire Joshua if the two meet again. But the money AJ would get from that fight is nowhere near what he would get from fighting Fury twice.

“Nature’s Game”

“I think if you don’t have your heart anymore and you don’t want to compete, I think retirement is the best option,” said Eddie Hearn on TNT Sports, in response to Tyson Fury announcing his retirement.

“I’m disappointed for the British fight fans because we got the chance to fight the biggest fight in boxing. When we last saw him, he had a great career.

“I doubt it, but it was always about going into retirement to make sure that someone will pay you to come out of retirement. But if that’s his lot, all respect to him and I wish him all the best,” Hearn said of Fury.

“I think that if I wanted a fair deal, I would also retire but I can’t speak for him. That’s all I would do. I think it’s a natural game, but maybe that’s his part. I don’t know him well enough to really comment,” said Hearn.

Fury might be tired of losing, he wondered after re-watching his loss to Oleksandr Usyk on December 21. He must have seen his performance now and realized he failed. Fury has suffered in the past, and he may not be feeling happy after being dominated for the second time by the talented Usyk.

With the huge fortune Fury has amassed from the fights in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, he may not feel the need to continue. He must know that if he fights Joshua, there are many chances that he will be knocked out by him because he does not have the power to stop him the way Daniel Dubois does. If Fury has to go 12 rounds to beat Joshua, there’s a good chance he’ll be successful.

Is Fury Scared?

Reliving the memories of losing AJ would haunt Fury, and no amount of money could make him forget what had happened. Some people can let bad experiences roll off their backs and forget about them. I don’t think Tyson is that type. He’s like someone who always dwells on the past, second guesses himself, and suffers from regrets like many older people do.

“He’s a man who makes his own decisions and it’s not the kind of game you want to play if your heart isn’t in it,” Hearn said.

“If his heart is gone, it is the right decision for him. Hopefully, that’s not the case and we get to see AJ fight. If not, I wish him all the best. The winner of Joseph Parker is facing Dubois,” said Hearn when asked what the next fight Anthony Joshua could take if Fury remains retired.

As you can see, Hearn is thinking about himself and not about Fury’s situation. He is just a tool to help Joshua increase his wealth. I don’t blame Fury for his resignation because the way he was hurt in both Usyk fights showed that he can’t even take a boxing anymore. Three fights with Deontay Wilder did something for him. Yes, it’s admirable that Fury won two of them, but the damage is there. Deontay chipped away at him in those fights.
