Fraudsters pull $400,000 worth of artisanal cheddar

The cheese bandits have released an eye-catching cheddar cheese from one of the UK’s most popular cheese shops.

Neal’s Yard Dairy announced on social media that the thieves, “posing as an official distributor of the French supermarket,” ordered more than 950 wheels of Hafod, Westcombe and Pitchfork cheddar.

The cheese was worth about $390,000, the company revealed.

Neal’s Yard Dairy reportedly delivered 22 metric tons (48,488 pounds) of cheddar before the wholesale distributor realized it was fake.

The milkman said they paid the cost of the theft which affected the small cheese makers.

“Despite the significant financial damage, we honored our commitment to our sub-suppliers and paid all three artisan cheese producers in full,” they said.
