Responding to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s criticism of French President Emmanuel Macron’s call for an arms embargo on Israel, Paris on Sunday reaffirmed its support for Israel.
In a statement, the presidential palace expressed regret for Netanyahu’s “exaggerated” words, assuring that France will not allow Iran or its proxies to attack Israel.
Macron believes there is an urgent need to prevent escalation in the region, including an immediate freeze on the Gaza Strip, his office said.
In this situation, the president called for an end to arms shipments to Israel intended for use in the Gaza Strip.
The comments come after Netanyahu described Macron’s call on Saturday to freeze arms deliveries to Israel as “disgraceful.”
“Israel will win with or without you,” Netanyahu said, according to his office.
In a video message to X, Netanyahu said calls for an arms embargo from Macron and other Western leaders came as Israel defends itself “on seven sides against the enemies of civilization.”
“They were shy,” he added.
On October 7, 2023, terrorists from the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas and allied groups entered Israel. They carried out a brutal massacre, resulting in the killing of over 1,200 people and the capture of around 250 people.
Since the Hamas offensive, Israel has been conducting significant military operations in the Gaza Strip. According to the latest figures from Gaza health authorities, which cannot be independently verified, more than 41,800 people have been killed.
