Former Celtics champion denies he was banned from Ring Ceremony
Kendrick Perkins may have helped the Celtics win a championship in 2008, but the organization is so unpopular now, that he was ‘banned’ from a recent franchise event.
It appears that Perkins’ public comments about the team last season were the last straw.
Criticism of the franchise was brutal from Perk, after he called head coach Joe Mazzella “bird brain”.
He also had words for Jayson Tatum in the playoffs and even questioned his abilities and leadership.
“I’m so tired of Jayson Tatum,” he continued First Take. “When will you come? He talked about how he couldn’t wait to get to the postseason. Well, there it is. What are you going to do about it? It’s in his hands, this is Jayson Tatum’s time.”
The Celtics raised a banner and accepted their 2024 championship rings on Opening Night at TD, and according to a US Sun report, Perk was apparently eager to receive an invitation.
“He was asking everyone to find a place at TD Garden, be there for this historic moment, and try to soften the damaged relationship,” confirmed one of the sources working in the organization.
“Requests were made in the weeks until the day before the opening day, he tried to talk to the people in the front office to see if other players could push him to be there but no one agreed to do that.
“He is not welcome here, and the tension between him and the Celtics is very high.
“Many players can’t stand him anymore, he has lost respect in the Celtics nation.”
However, the former secretary denied what X said, saying that he had no intention of attending the event and had no contact with anyone.
Sounds like you’re wrong. This is completely false. I never had plans to go to Banner night and I never reached out to anyone in the Celtics organization about attending banner night. Happy Sunday and Carry the hell on…
