Ford is recalling nearly 25,000 trucks for a problem that could cause the camera to malfunction

Ford is recalling nearly 25,000 trucks due to a problem that could disable the rear camera system.

The automaker said water “could enter the Tailgate Park Assist Sensor Interface Module” and lead to a malfunction of the rearview camera display on 24,950 of its 2023-2024 F-250, F-350 and F-450 trucks.

All potentially affected trucks include a rearview camera that “provides additional camera footage when the tailgate is down and is a different camera than the rearview camera,” Ford said in an Oct. 25 recall report posted to National Highway Traffic. Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The recall report stated that the problem was caused by “certain mating connections” of the rear camera that “weakened” and the camera bracket “ends[ing] water” at the time of application.

In the event that the problem occurs, the image of the rear view camera may appear as “blue or black” or operate “intermittently,” things that could be a safety problem due to the reduced visibility of the driver, according to the report.

According to the recall report, owners of the recalled trucks can get their rearview camera, wiring harness and TPASIM module replaced at a Ford or Lincoln dealership for free. Their “Image Processing Module A” will get a software update as well, it said.

“Pickup and delivery will be available at participating locations,” a Ford spokesperson told FOX Business. “We are also working on other options that may make completing this application as easy as possible for our customers.”
