On Friday night November 15th, Most Valuable Promotions hosted the main event at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas as 27-year-old YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul defeated two-time world heavyweight champion ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson by unanimous decision.
The strategic planning and marketing of this event has been successful. Millions of fans tuned in to Netflix hoping to see the aggressive Mike Tyson of yesteryear, but instead saw a way past his hall of fame boxer fighting to go the distance.
The fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul was expected to take place on July 20, but two months before the fight, Tyson suffered a health problem. During the flight from Miami to Los Angeles, Tyson was attacked by an ulcer.
Tyson felt nauseous, light-headed, and bled in the plane’s bathroom. After treatment at the hospital, Tyson’s doctor advised him to take a few weeks off from training. Due to Tyson’s injury, his fight with Jake Paul was postponed and rescheduled for November 15.
When Mike Tyson resumed his training, red flags appeared, but Tyson’s die-hard fans did not ignore them. For example, instead of posting extended clips of Tyson training, his team would post small snippets of training sessions.
This didn’t go down well with a group of people who criticized the Tyson vs Paul fight because they wanted to watch an extended video to get an idea of Tyson’s fitness level, 58. Another red flag that was worrying was the lack of sparring.

When Tyson came inside, Jake Paul continued to hold and hold. As the referee separated the two fighters, Paul used his jab as he circled the ring. Later in the opening round, fight fans cheered when Tyson landed a left hook.
As the match progressed, Jake Paul controlled the fight and movement, using his jab and throwing the occasional right hand. In Mike Tyson’s mind, he wanted to take the fight to Paul, but his body failed. Tyson was standing on tired legs, and as a result, the 58-year-old was unable to cover the distance.
A stunned crowd at AT&T Stadium watched as they saw star Mike Tyson inside the ring, looking like a shell of his old self. Meanwhile, Jake Paul continued to execute his game plan, and reached a unanimous decision.
After this fight, many celebrities expressed their views on social media. Some questioned why the fight was allowed, while others were angry with Jake Paul. WBA lightweight world champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis wrote:
“To the guys who shared the ring with Mike.. you guys are all about this, and you didn’t do the job sh**head…”
Mike Tyson will always be a boxing legend and this loss to Jake Paul will not hurt his mystique. The Tyson vs Paul fight was painful to watch, as we also saw that no matter how great the athlete was when he was growing up, Father Time was invincible.
