Scrap collectors in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, sell everything from plastic bottles and electronics to all sorts of bric-a-brac that middle-class people don’t want – they can recycle or use raw materials to make something sellable. Those involved in the Merkato market say the system provides an economic opportunity while contributing to curbing waste and reducing climate change.
