Emma Kenney Shamelessly Called Out ‘Steve Howey’ After Booking Happy Place
After booking the role of Reba McEntiredaughter of This is Happy’s place, Emma Kenney get support – and sound advice – from him Shameless the costar Steve Howey.
“I was very happy to be a part of it This is Happy’s place and work with Reba. I worked with Steve Howey for a long time, who also worked with Reba for a long time. So I went into it, I called him,” said Kenney, 25, speaking to himself Us Weekly. “He had nothing but wonderful things to say about himself and he was impeccable.”
Kenney had “such a great time” working with McEntire, 69, who previously shared the screen with Howey, 47, on the show. Reba a sitcom. “You have a kind and generous and welcoming energy, which is very special when you join an established cast to feel that way,” Kenney commented. “So I was very lucky to have that.”
After sharing the screen with McEntire, Howey went on to star alongside Kenney in the hit Showtime series Shameless. Howey went back to his roots with a guest role This is Happy’s place earlier this season, which set the stage for a possible on-screen meeting between him and Kenney.
“I would like to go back to the top with Steve. He is one of my favorite people and very funny,” said the actor Us. “He is really like an uncle to me. And I would love to do scenes with him and Reba. In fact, that would be a lot of fun.”
Meanwhile, Kenney is celebrating the opportunity to play opposite McEntire after bringing the role of Gracie to life on the Friday, January 10, episode of the new NBC sitcom.
“I really felt a great responsibility for joining this project and playing Reba’s daughter. He is a hero and a great player,” Kenney continued. “The show was already airing a few episodes when I started shooting. So obviously I looked at what I could do and tried to prepare it with that in mind. I wanted to come and try to bring honor to his daughter’s condition.”
Part of Kenney’s preparation meant creating his own take on the character.
“He is tough and no nonsense. Gracie has a lot of strength and I would say determination,” he said. “But I really wanted to bring heart to her and I wanted the audience to see why she has this tough exterior.”
Kenney continued: “I always analyze the character I write down. Sometimes I’ll choose a character’s zodiac sign, as weird as that may sound. It gives me a little insight into this character. I have chosen [Gracie] being a Capricorn. I saw that it made sense to him.”
While Kenney would love to reprise her role as Gracie, she would also love the chance to reunite with old customers – including herself. Shameless the family.
“I miss working with all of them. It’s always a sad and perhaps unpleasant feeling when you wrap up a show you’ve been doing for years because it’s almost never going to be the exact same cast. Although you do The Connors [on ABC] it gave me hope,” he admitted. “In the sense that they literally brought the whole crew back from their original ’80s and ’90s shows. But I’ve been really lucky to work with such wonderful people with whom I’ve built strong relationships. I would love to get on set with any of them again.”
This is Happy’s place airs on NBC Fridays at 8 pm ET.
